There is decades of precedent for this pattern in the technology sector itself. Computing, storage, and bandwidth have been violently deflationary for half a century — a gigabyte of storage cost hundreds of thousands of dollars in 1980 and effectively rounds to zero today. Read the table from the bottom up. Housing does not deflate because the binding input is not construction labor — it is land with planning permission, and no robot manufactures a desirable postcode. Healthcare does not deflate at the rate of software because patients pay for accountability and trust as much as diagnosis, and both are regulated markets with licensure moats. Care work does not deflate because the human presence is not an inefficiency to be optimized away; it is the product itself. The power question in that last row is the whole ballgame. Item four is the one that cannot be engineered away, and it is sufficient on its own. Human beings contest relative standing in every known social arrangement, including ones with material abundance.
